Paddle boarding in Kampot
One of the things that make Cambodia amazing is that locals and expats alike never run out of things to try out or discover. Take for example, paddle boarding in Kampot, spelunking in Kampong Trach, or riding the banana boat at Sihanoukville. You may not have heard of it at first, but then somebody somewhere is already trying things out.
So, with the weekend coming up, fancy heading out to Kampot and trying something new?
Paddle boarding in Kampot
One of the things you can try during the weekend is paddle boarding in Kampot. Currently, stand up paddle boarding (also known as SUP) is a growing sport that is not only recognized in Cambodia but also the rest of the world. One of the companies offering a unique paddle boarding experience is Supasia, which is based in Kampot.
What do you get to do?
There are a couple of things you can do during your trip:
- Try your hand at stand up paddle boarding – the company offers lessons for those who are interested.
- Take a tour via paddle boarding – after learning how to paddle board, the next thing to definitely do is to go on a tour. You get to see many waterways, mangrove forests, and even paddle next to the Irrawaddy Dolphins! A definite MUST.
- Relax by doing SUP yoga – if you are a yogi and want to try something new, paddle board fitness and yoga just might be something you want to try out.
What to wear?
Guests can pretty much wear anything they prefer, although the company suggests wearing swimwear and a hat. Bikinis, however, are discouraged since the area is still relatively culturally sensitive. No need to bring life jackets and waterproof camera cases though as these are readily provided.
How to get to Kampot?
Now the big question of getting to Kampot. Well, if you are in Phnom Penh, there are buses that go from Phnom Penh to Kampot at varying hours during the day. If you are in Siem Reap, there are also Siem Reap to Kampot routes available, as well as Sihanoukville to Kampot. For other routes, you can check out the BookMeBus system and book your bus tickets as soon as possible.
This is something you definitely do not want to miss out on!
