New Years Eve 2017 in Cambodia

With the New Year fast approaching, it is time to decide where you want to be for the countdown on New Years Eve 2017 in Cambodia. If you are still undecided, here are some places you might want to consider as the place to be when ushering in 2017.

new years eve 2017

Phnom Penh

This year’s countdown to 2017 is expected to be big in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. While many gather to the streets to witness the fireworks display at the strike of midnight, several people will be celebrating at the main hotels that are hosting festive events.

Sofitel will host its “Gala Dinner in the Phokeethra Grand Ballroom,” which promises fantastic entertainment to go with their feast. On the other hand, Raffles will also have their “Kingdom of Wonder Gala Dinner,” which will be held poolside. Also hosting events are Nagaworld and Hotel Cambodiana.

If the big hotels are not appealing, several bars and pubs along the Riverside are sure to have their own countdown festivities – showcasing a great view of the river and the fireworks display.

Sihanoukville

Although Sihanoukville has just had its Cambodia Sea Festival, the party never seems to stop at this beachside province. As it is, Sihanoukville is easily one of the most popular places to go to when one wants to celebrate a New Year’s countdown.

Every year, fireworks color the sky when welcoming the coming year. A walk along the Occheuteal Beach showcases fun, partying, and merriment for those who are celebrating New Years Eve 2017.

Since Sihanoukville is quite popular during this time, it is best to book bus tickets ahead of time so as to ensure you have a ride going there. Bus tickets can be purchased with BookMeBus for more convenience.

Siem Reap

Yet another favorite of locals and expats alike, Siem Reap promises its guests with a night of partying especially in the famed Pub Street.

While Pub Street is already a party scene during regular days, the fun increases on countdown night, making it THE place to be with friends and family. Siem Reap usually runs out of hotels to stay due to the yearly crowd that gathers. So it would be best to start checking for rooms and booking ahead.

Travel to Siem Reap is also expected to be almost full, so if you plan to travel from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap or Bangkok to Siem Reap, you should start checking for flights or book bus tickets online through our website.

It comes as no surprise that everybody wants to welcome the New Year with much revelry and celebration. Thus it is important to beat the crowds and book ahead. Take care and book ahead to beat the holiday rush at BookMeBus.

Bus trip from Phnom Penh to Battambang

Editor’s Note: We once again hear from Hugo on his exciting trip from Phnom Penh to Battambang. As always, all content and images belong to the contributor.

Hi everyone! Again, here I am, after some new traveling experiences in Cambodia. I am still living in Phnom Penh, trying to enjoy as much as possible to travel around when I can manage time and money!
Last weekend, I decided to move on discovering Battambang, thus I booked a bus through BookMeBus to reach Battambang. I booked a Virak Buntham Night Bus leaving at 1 am from Phnom Penh night market because journey is quite long and I didn’t have a lot of time to go on travelling. That was the first time I had a night bus in Cambodia, one large bed for two persons! It was fun and I slept well so my requirements were totally fulfilled. The journey was great!

phnom penh to battambang

I arrived early morning on Saturday, I started looking for an hostel around the city center, I found one pretty great and really cheap, couple of streets up to Night Market (Sorry, I forgot the name). As I always do when I am on trip somewhere in Cambodia, I rented a moto for two days to go on discovering the city and the surroundings. I went down south, riding next to the river for some hours! Places there are amazing, great views and the atmosphere is so relaxing there when your daily life takes places in Phnom Penh! You can see monkeys, bats and some temples all around. I love Cambodian countryside, I can spend hours driving in there, getting lost on these incredible tiny dust roads.

battambang

After all this time spending on losing myself into Battambang countryside I decided to go to the “Bat cave”. This is one of the biggest touristic attraction in Battambang. This cave is under a mountain where you have many great temples as well as some historical places. At sunset time, thousands of bats are leaving this cave to live their night life! This is impressive but not as I expected… I expected to see a huge cloud of bats leaving at once, but finally they were leaving the cave in a thin discontinuous flow. However this mountain is really beautiful, I am warmly recommending you to go there and visit those temples. (Entrance fee is 1$ per person). You can either choose the road or the stairs, I personally took the stairs, it’s quick and not really tough to handle.

After this long trip, I just get back to Battambang and enjoy night market as well as some bars with backpackers I met on the way. The day after, I continue on discovering the countryside and chilling around the city, which was really great.

I enjoyed this place, countryside is beautiful and it’s a good place to relax and chill around. However I would not recommend you to stay more than 4-5 days there. Once you have seen the city (which is small) and the surroundings you don’t have much more to do and Cambodia is full of great stuff to see so you have plenty of possibilities to continue your trip around!

I hope I gave you the tips you wanted from this place!!

See around traveling,

Cheers,

Hugo

Travel to Sihanoukville for the Cambodia Sea Festival

Do you have any plans later this month? If not, you might want to check out the Cambodia Sea Festival, which is to be held in from December 23 to 25, 2016 at Sihanoukville.

What is the Cambodia Sea Festival?

Every year, thousands gather to the seaside provinces in order to celebrate the Cambodia Sea Festival. This year, the said event is to be hosted at Preah Sihanouk Province. As early as October, several preparations have been made, including the relocation of some vendors.

During the event, parties, concerts, water sports, racing, and fireworks are to be expected. In addition, the event will be graced by the Prime Minister himself to kick off the festivities.

Why join the Cambodia Sea Festival?

For many, this is a chance to enjoy the sea along with the many parties and festivities that are expected to happen. Many others may still want to head over to the islands of Koh Rong for a more relaxing experience. However, there are still many things to enjoy in the main island itself.

Travelers who seek a more peaceful and relaxing getaway may not want to go to Sihanoukville during this time. Instead, it may be wise to check out other destinations such as Kep, Battambang, or even Siem Reap.

BookMeBus gives discounts!

If, however, you do plan to join the fun and activities at Sihanoukville, you are in luck!

BookMeBus is offering 10% discount for tickets headed to Sihanoukville, in time for the Cambodia Sea Festival. To avail of this discount, you can click on the link below.

My trip from Phnom Penh to Mondolkiri

Editor’s Note: The story below chronicles the adventure of Alice on her trip from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri. All images and content are from the contributor.

Currently living in Phnom Penh, we decided with some friends to leave the capital city during Water Festival and go on discovering North East of Cambodia and especially Mondolkiri.

We booked a bus through BookMeBus to go there. The journey was great, the landscape was really beautiful and very different to all I’ve seen in Cambodia so far, with all those hills and this luxuriant vegetation. Our first impression when we got there, was this really peaceful mood prevailing in this small village surrounded by nature and animals. This is so pleasant after the spirited Phnom Penh!

We were hosted and guided by two native from a Mondolkiri village during the entire week-end, which is a great way to discover this region. We stayed in a traditional house for the first night, talking and eating with locals.

mondolkiri

The second day we left early morning to go for two days trekking in the jungle! That was an amazing experience. We swam in waterfalls, saw crazy animals, slept in hammock (in the middle of the forest), fished and eat from the river, saw elephants … Coming back in the village after this incredible 2 days trek, people invited us to a weeding in the village! That was so great!

Mondolkiri is far from being my best trip since I am in Cambodia, not only for the amazing landscape but also because it was a real interesting exchange and sharing moment with the locals. It is a place not to be missed during your trip in Cambodia!

I would recommend to go there just after the rainy season, when the landscape is entirely green and rain is not anymore an obstacle to go on discovering. You should stay there at least three days, which is I think the minimum if you want have time to appreciate this so special atmosphere. Moreover, if you want to see the elephants, I would recommend you to choose a Cambodian NGO, in order contributing to local initiatives.

I did enjoy this trip a lot because we always were with locals therefore I can only warmly recommend you to avoid guesthouses there!

Enjoy your trip in Mondolkiri!
